Two pediatric cases of pine nut allergy proved by oral food challenge

چکیده
Methods We report the observations of two boys of age 5 and 11 formerly diagnosed with common food allergens. A secondary sensitization to pine nuts appears in skin prick tests using a commercial extract (Stallergènes, Antony, France). Specific serum IgE test (CAP-FEIA f253 Phadia) were performed. Because it was impossible to precise the consumption of pine nuts (anamnesis not informative enough), an oral food challenge was performed confirming.

Children monosensitized to pine nuts have similar patterns of sensitization.
BACKGROUND Several cases of pine nut allergies and anaphylaxis have been reported in the literature, but only few pine nut allergens have been characterized. The aim of this research is to identify through immunoelectrophoretic techniques the major pine nut allergens in a group of children monosensitized to pine nuts. METHODS We studied five children with pine nut allergies and no other sensi...
متن کاملOral food challenge outcomes in a pediatric tertiary care center
BACKGROUND Oral food challenges are the clinical standard for diagnosis of food allergy. Little data exist on predictors of oral challenge failure and reaction severity. METHODS A retrospective chart review was done on all pediatric patients who had oral food challenges in a tertiary care pediatric allergy clinic from 2008 to 2010. RESULTS 313 oral challenges were performed, of which the ma...

Between July 2008 and November 2010, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) received 197 consumer reports of prolonged taste disturbances following consumption of pine nuts. Most consumers consistently reported a delayed bitter or metallic taste with foods beginning 4 to 48 hours after pine nut consumption. This bitter taste recurred with any food consumed, lasting on average 5 to 10 days. S...

Background: A clear association between allergy and nasal polyposis (NP) is not determined and the role of food intolerance in patients with NP is not investigated by oral food challenge (OFC). Objective: To investigate the relation of salicylate food intolerance and atopy in patients with NP according to recurrence and aspirin sensitivity. Methods: A cross sectional multicenter study was d...
متن کاملEgg Food Challenges are Associated with More Gastrointestinal Reactions
Egg allergy is a common pediatric allergy, and is usually outgrown by elementary school age. There is, therefore, a need to perform an oral food challenge (OFC) to establish the presence of food allergy to egg. In this study, we conducted a retrospective review of 2304 OFCs at a pediatric center and analyzed the severity of reactions during egg OFCs and compared them with other foods. The gastr...
